Understanding Score

The SAT test score is calculated as follows:

HOW EACH TYPE OF QUESTIONS AFFECT YOUR SCORE:

Multiple choice questions

• Score is not affected for unanswered questions.
• In five-choice questions: for each wrong answer, 1/4 will be subtracted.
• In four-choice questions: for each wrong answer, 1/3 will be subtracted.

Grid-ins

• Score is not affected for unanswered questions.
• Score is not affected for wrong answers.

HOW IS YOUR SCORE CALCULATED:

A raw score is obtained using the above described guidelines. If this score is a fraction, it will be round up to the nearest integer. A score of 50.5 will become 51 and a score of 50.4 will become 50.

This raw score is then converted, using a statistical process called equating, into a scale that ranges from 200 to 800 for each section. This process is to ensure that, the score in the present test, represents the same grade of ability compare to another editions of the test.

PERCENTILES

You will receive with your report a percentile score. This compares yours to other students score. The percentile is a number from 1 to 99. For example, if your percentile is 65, this means that, from a total of 100, your score was better than 65 of them.
